Note: if you plan to backup your iPod to an external hard drive, please use the Backup to folder method.

Open CopyTrans to protect iPod

Before you connect your iPod to the computer, close iTunes (if opened) and open CopyTrans . To do so, go to the CopyTrans Control Center, in the Start menu (Start menu -> Programs -> CopyTrans Suite -> CopyTrans Control Center) and click on CopyTrans.

Connect your iPod to the computer

CopyTrans protects your iPod against unwanted detection and synchronization of your iPod with an empty or incomplete iTunes library. Therefore, once CopyTrans is open, you can safely connect your iPod to the computer.

CopyTrans should detect your iPod automatically and start displaying its content.

If your iPod is not automatically detected, select it from the "Select iPod" menu. You will find this menu in the top left corner.
